The England youngsters begin their FIFA Under-17 World Cup tournament on Saturday, with six of Chelsea’s talents looking to showcase their ability on the main stage. 

Staff writer Nathan Gissing, has earmarked rising star Josh-Kofi Acheampong as one to watch. 

The 17-year-old defender is known for his versatility across the backline, where he predominantly plays as a right-back but can also comfortably slot in at centre-back.

Acheampong’s attacking traits certainly don’t go unnoticed either, where technically, he’s a very composed and skilled player. He finds most of his joy as an inverted full-back by coming inside and carrying the ball forward with momentum. 

Josh certainly knows how to strike a ball with both feet, with his most memorable goal coming against Tottenham on his weaker foot last season. 

Acheampong has come through the ranks at Chelsea since joining as an under-8. Now, through significant hard work and sacrifice, he finds himself a nailed-on starter for Chelsea’s Under-18s. 

Following his steady performances, this also earned him his Under-21 debut earlier this season.

After competing with England in the Under-17 European Championships in the summer, he now finds himself seeking to leave his imprint on the World Cup in Indonesia.
